Smart’s new Sponsored Data service enables businesses to offer free connections to their apps and websites to Smart customers

Smart Axiata, Cambodia’s leading mobile telecommunications provider, has announced the launch of its Sponsored Data service, which allows online businesses in the Kingdom to offer free data connections to their online platforms to Smart customers.

Nham24 and LM CAR are the first sponsors to take up the Sponsored Data service, so Smart subscribers can now connect with to these popular businesses’ platforms via their mobile applications without consuming any of their personal data allowance.

“Offers like this from one of Cambodia’s most established and respected companies show that Smart really understands how digital businesses work and how important it is for us to be able to stay connected with our customers at all times. By signing up for the Sponsored Data service, we are adding real value for our customers who are Smart subscribers,” said Nham24 CEO Borima Chann.

“We all know how frustrating it can be to run out of data in the middle of organizing a taxi, but LM CAR users who are Smart subscribers won’t have to worry about that anymore,” said LM Car General Manager Zheng Pei.

With the emergence of many creative digital businesses in Cambodia that rely on connections with their customers wherever they are, telecommunications providers need to be equally innovative with their products aimed at these SMEs and digital startups.

“We fully realize that mobile connectivity is key to a digital future. Facilitating digital connections through innovative data offerings such as Sponsored Data will ensure that our subscribers get the most use out of their data while staying connected to ride-hailing and food delivery services, which have become virtual necessities in the last few years,” said Smart Axiata CEO Thomas Hundt.

“Evolving our digital ecosystem through partnerships like this, which enable customers and businesses to connect, is a core part of our vision of making lives easier. Of course, working with digital businesses is not new for us, as we have consistently engaged with leading startups and established businesses to provide the relevant solutions they need to scale their businesses. We are always ready to innovate and create the next big solution to support Cambodia’s digital economy,” Thomas added.

According to the latest report from the Asian Development Bank, released in late May, Cambodian tech and digital businesses generated 470 million USD of revenues in 2019, which wouldn’t be possible without the widely available and affordable Internet connectivity, primarily mobile Internet, provided by the mobile telecommunication operators like Smart.
