Phnom Penh, Cambodia — Smart Axiata has moved swiftly to advance Cambodia’s transition to next-generation connectivity, deploying more than 600 5G sites across 21 cities and provinces within just 27 days, marking a decisive step in establishing nationwide 5G readiness. This deployment is especially notable, as the network has expanded from 283 sites on January 1st to over 600 sites, more than doubling the rollout in less than a month.
This expansion reflects Smart’s ongoing commitment to delivering digital connectivity for individuals, households, and enterprises, building on its achievement of deploying more than 500 sites in 2025.
As of 27 January 2026, Smart has deployed a total of over 600 5G sites nationwide, with strong presence across major population, economic, and tourism centers. The top five locations by site count include:
- Phnom Penh: over 400 sites
- Kandal: nearly 50 sites
- Preah Sihanouk: over 40 sites
- Siem Reap: nearly 40 sites
- Battambang: approximately 30 sites
Building on this early momentum, Smart plans to extend 5G coverage to all 25 cities and provinces by the end of 2026, reinforcing its long-term commitment to inclusive connectivity and sustainable digital growth.
“5G is the new internet for every Cambodian, and we are working hard to bring it to as many people as we can,” said Ritesh Kumar Singh, CEO of Smart Axiata. “Our priority is to scale 5G quickly and responsibly, so individuals, families, and businesses can benefit from a more reliable, high-performance connectivity today; while creating the foundation for new digital services, innovation, and enterprise growth across the country.”
5G Built Around Real-World User Experience
Smart’s 5G network delivers typically speed of 100-200 Mbps, enabling smoother video streaming, faster downloads, responsive cloud applications, and more immersive digital services.
Adoption has grown quickly, with more than 750,000 users connecting daily to Smart’s 5G network—reflecting strong demand and a seamless transition from existing 4G services.
Beyond performance, Smart’s 5G rollout focuses on how people experience connectivity—at home, on the move, and at work—enabling richer digital lifestyles while supporting economic growth and everyday experiences that increasingly rely on reliable, high-capacity networks.
In addition to mobile services, Smart customers can now experience 5G at home through a trial period of Smart@Home, bringing next-generation connectivity directly into households with minimal set-up via a 5G Wi-Fi 6 router, in all areas 5G coverage is available.
