Smart Axiata launches a $1,000,000 Relief and Recovery Fund for communities in need.

Purpose

In response to the humanitarian impact of the recent Cambodia–Thailand border conflict, Smart Axiata is committing $1,000,000 over three years to support communities, affected military personnel, and their families. 

Who will benefit from the fund?

The fund will assist a wide range of affected individuals, including evacuees, frontline military forces and their families, small business owners and their employees, students, and communities in need of material, social, emotional, and connectivity support.
The Fund is initially focusing on Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, and Pursat provinces. Other areas may be added if the Board of Trustees identifies urgent needs.​

Who is eligible to apply for the fund?

Registered Non-Profit Organizations: Local or international NGOs with a proven track record in
humanitarian response, community development, education, health, or digital inclusion. ​

Government Institutions: Ministries, provincial departments, and other public sector bodies directly
involved in relief, recovery, or development efforts in affected areas.

Short Term Support

  • Housing & shelter: The fund will prioritize emergency relief and shelter support for displaced Cambodian people in the affected conflict border areas.
  • Living Essentials: Over 17,000 emergency food packages have already been delivered to evacuees and frontline personnel, ensuring access to essentials necessities, while further will be provided.  
  • Healthcare: Physical health, mental health, and social healing are among the fund’s key focus areas to support the well-being of impacted communities. 
Short Term Support

Mid and Long Term Support

  • Digital access and services: The fund will be mobilized to improve digital connectivity, and ensure continued access to mobile data, information, and essential online services.
  • MSME Recovery: Support to restart family-based microenterprises (e.g., agriculture, retail, handicrafts) through provision of equipment and digital tools.
  • Health and Education: This effort will focus on improving access to healthcare and education, particularly for displaced families and frontline militaries.

Fund Principle

The fund will be governed by an independent Board of Trustees to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient utilization—ensuring that support reaches those who need it most. In addition, the fund will focus on the following key pillars:
