PHNOM PENH – in corporation with the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and Civil Society Organizations, Smart Mobile (010/093) sponsored the Disability Dissemination and Fund Raising Program from 23rd till 25th of December 2009 held at Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium.

During the 3-days event, many activities took place throughout the days including a trade exhibition and various activities of people with disabilities at more than eighty booths. On 25th December evening, as highlight, a great concert with the presence of many Cambodian famous stars as well as disabled stars from Epic Art and Krousar Thmey took place. Accordingly, at least 20,000 spectators and thousands ofpeople through radio and TV gained awareness on disability.

The program was implemented to widely disseminate and enhance awareness of the public on required protection and promotion of the rights of people with disabilities as well as on the elimination of discrimination and to raise funds to support their future.

In the occasion, Mr. Thomas HUNDT, CEO of Latelz Co., Ltd. (Smart Mobile) said, “the majority of people with disabilities are the poorest people; in particular, women and children with disabilities are most vulnerable because their living standard is far below the poverty line and further challenged by socioeconomic exclusion and discrimination. Moreover, there is limited access for people with disabilities to social services such as health, education, vocational training, employment and opportunity to generate income.”

He added, “Smart Mobile keeps involving in many development projects to educate young people and to develop the community as well as to protect the environment as we have contributed over the past period, including Drive Safe! Drive Smart! and in cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia in Combating Drug during Water Festival and International Anti-Drug Day.”
