A free 6-month youth leadership development programs seeks to activate 1,000 youth leaders to develop their leadership skills and improve their employment prospects.

Youth unemployment is the biggest issue facing youth today according to a recent UN situational analysis. To combat this, John McGeoghan, project manager at the Phnom Penh office of the International Organisation for Migration, said “establishing programmes and opportunities for young people to develop work-related skills ... is essential”. Businesses are also suffering as they struggle to identify and recruit high-quality graduates. The resulting situation is one in which youth unemployment is growing and businesses face difficulties to find the talents they need in the increasing crowd of graduates.

The AIESEC 1,000 Global Leaders Program will address the needs of both stakeholders by providing world-class training on essential skills such as teamwork, communication, presentation, critical thinking and leadership as well build their ability to engage with problems in a positive and professional manner. With the essential support of Smart Mobile, Champion Partner of AIESEC, AIESEC is able to provide this 6-month program for free to final year university students and recent graduates.

By focusing on developing critically needed business and leadership skills and experience with Cambodian youth leaders, AIESEC and Smart Mobile aspire to contribute towards resolving the problems that youth and businesses face in Cambodia. The program is being launched on Friday 18th December at the Smart Store of Smart Mobile on Monivong Blvd., Phnom Penh and the training starts Saturday 19th December 2009.
